Shearwater – First 27.7 (Bangor)
Shearwater is a 2003 First 27.7 in the UK (Bangor) she looks a nice boat that seems to have nearly everything I want plus maybe even a few Ooh I’d like that. She is a lifting keel version that I like the idea of as it means I can trailer her as well as winter store her at ours!
First look she looks tidy but that could be good photography but only has one battery which isn’t so good but the provisions are there to add another i.e. Box space and isolation switches. This said she doesn’t actually have much electrical draw as she doesn’t have a fridge (just coolbox!) a Garmin 128 GPS which is okay but isn’t really what I would want to bring her home! She does however have Raymarine wind, speed and depth in the cockpit a Simrad DSC VHF which isn’t bad but I will need AIS and the easiest way would appear to hot-swap out the radio which is a shame but better than getting a standalone AIS and then being able to display it – bare in mind this is only a real necessity for the delivery home once in Cyprus it isn’t going to be really used! It does have a Simrad 20 tiller pilot but again I would probably need to something bigger for the main delivery trip!
Initial thoughts are good but some things need to be thought through before we actually purchase so stay tuned as I start running though my thoughts!
A simple single handed day with reasonable winds and the camera running all the time. It does surprise me how much I learnt about all the things I was missing when sailing after watching the videos, these will become more of a part of sailing from now on because there is a lot to be […]
Very light day with Denis with almost no wind at all but we managed to creap around and both enjoyed a relaxing day on the water. After having the boat for now over a year and the video camera for many years and them being together a lot, this was the first time they actually […]
This was a very strange day out with a friend who’s sailed a little before but not for many years so basically it was me single handed again which I love. Once unwrapped there was very little wind without too much being forecast but Galerne was ready to go and so we decided we would […]
