First sail of 2021 – 3rd January 2021
With all the Covid19 issues surrounding life at the moment, time on the water is either restricted through not even being allowed or being allowed but not with others! I’ve trying to arrange a trip out with a couple of very good friends who in fairness don’t want to go for miles as they would say, they’ve done that and gotten the tee shirt or even a few! They have sailed around the world and although they enjoy being on the water just want to dip in and out these days and I was only too pleased to take them out for a couple of hours.
It was a strange day and the forecast was for light if nothing winds but even when I arrived at about 9am there was more than expected but nothing much. Once they arrived, we had a good show around and a cup of coffee before slipping the lines and making our way out of the marina with no more than about 8kts of wind! As a boat Galerne doesn’t actually need much wind to more but one wouldn’t call it exciting stuff, we were moving along though.
As we worked our way out between the stranded or parked (due to Covid) cruise ships the wind started to pick up until we were zipping along in 15-18kts on the downwind return to the marina. It was a short but sweet trip out that was enough to wet her bottom and test the new headsail shackle after the last trip out.
Once safely back in our birth Carol brings out some fizz to celebrate and some food which went down really well sitting in the cockpit in the sun tucked out of the wind. All in all a very pleasant day with some good friends.
