New panels fit for speed – 25th March 2021

As mentioned within “Changing the electrics” I needed to make some new electrical panels for the boat once the changes that had been planned because it would have been almost impossible to alter the old ones and anyways with the changes I was thinking about it also allows for a future proofed new start!

I’ve had good fun creating the back panels using high density rigid PVC board and carbon fibre sheeting with epoxy, this project was for fun because I wanted to learn to use carbon fibre rather than it was actually needed, so this project served two purposes, me learning and the need for something new!

Having now finished them and they are installed, I think they look amazing. Even since this last image I’ve added a ROKK waterproof phone charging mount above the VHF so that my phone is permanently on charge when on the boat but also because I use Navionics on it! The space above the Chartplotter is for future growth/project work and the space to the left of the VHF and phone charger is exactly the right size to put standard instrument repeaters if ever needed.

This all said I hate the way these panels fit in as there really isn’t any way of keeping things neat as there needs to be more cable that is really needed just to allow these panels to be removed – version two will be worked out but now it is time to sail with these and enjoy life again.
